چکیده

To realize fully our human potential is to learn to be aware of, to choose flexibly, and to implement effortlessly an expanding, dynamic range of attentional styles for the optimum allocation of our resources. A fundamental observation is presented in this paper: Attentional styles and brain wave activity are reflected in each other. Attention styles are defined. Attention biases are described and their impact on physiology and experience is suggested. Optimum attention style combinations are suggested. Research data are presented. Talk therapy and attention training are contrasted. How we use styles of attention to manage our experience is discussed. An umbrella identity is recommended as a portal to flexible attention. A neural mechanism for separation and integration of awareness, attention and their contents is proposed. The potential benefits for exploring and practicing attention styles and OPEN FOCUS are described.

Electroencephalographic biofeedback in the treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.

Historically, pharmacological treatments for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) have been considered to be the only type of interventions effective for reducing the core symptoms of this condition. However, during the past three decades, a series of case and controlled group studies examining the effects of EEG biofeedback have reported improved attention and behavioral control, in...

Clinical utility of EEG in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Electrophysiological measures were among the first to be used to study brain processes in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD; Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders [4th ed.], American Psychiatric Association, 1994) and have been used as such for over 30 years (see Hastings & Barkley, 1978, for an early review). More recently, electroencephalography (EEG...

Electroencephalographic biofeedback (neurotherapy) as a treatment for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder: rationale and empirical foundation.

During the past three decades, electroencephalographic (EEG) biofeedback has emerged as a nonpharmacologic treatment for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). This intervention was derived from operant conditioning studies that demonstrated capacity for neurophysiologic training in humans and other mammals and targets atypical patterns of cortical activation that have been identified...

The effects of stimulant therapy, EEG biofeedback, and parenting style on the primary symptoms of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.

One hundred children, ages 6-19, who were diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), either inattentive or combined types, participated in a study examining the effects of Ritalin, EEG biofeedback, and parenting style on the primary symptoms of ADHD. All of the patients participated in a 1-year, multimodal, outpatient program that included Ritalin, parent counseling, and ac...

Application of Electroencephalography (EEG) in Ergonomics: A systematic review study

Background and Objectives: Electroencephalography is one of the non-invasive and relatively inexpensive methods that can be used to evaluate neurophysiology and cognitive functions. This systematic review study was performed with the aim of using electroencephalography (EEG) in ergonomics. Methods: In this review study, all articles published in Persian and English on the application of elec...
